Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has turbaned Alhaji Abdul Hakeem Afuye as the Imam of Bodija Mosque and Islamic Centre, Ibadan.
The Sultan, last week, at the inauguration of the ultra-modern mosque, took the gathering by surprise when he equally turbaned the imam impromptu.
“I have decided to turban the imam in line with tradition, and thereafter, he will lead all of us in the jumat prayer in the mosque,” he said.
The Islamic leader with the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao, decorated the imam.
The Sultan advised the new imam to abide by the principles governing his office.
Imam Afuye thanked Allah and the Sultan for the honour done him as well as the Bodija Muslim community.
