Plans are underway by Nigeria’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on another nationwide strike.
Although the union is yet to make an official statement on the strike, students in universities across Nigeria are already informed of the strike by their lecturers. IBPulse.com got insights into the proposed strike from students of University of Abuja, University of Osun.
Wale, a student of University of Abuja said: “I heard about the ASUU forthcoming strike…the rumours is being circulated in my school(UniAbuja).”
Hammed added: “We are also hearing about the strike in UniOsun.”
McLuhan said: “I do hope it will turn out to be merely a rumour. Medical doctors have not yet finished theirs. Most lecturers that I know don’t even have the appetite for another strike. They complain that the last strike did not yield many dividends in terms of remuneration, apart from the money voted for infrastructure, which money, in any case, is managed and controlled by vice-chancellors and governing councils.”
