Non payment of salaries threatens Ajimobi's second term ambition

The re-election bid of Oyo state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi may have suffered a major setback following the inability of the state government to pay the salaries of workers in the state, IBPulse.com can exclusively report.

IBPulse reported the state government had not paid the members of staff their November salaries while some said they were yet to receive their November salaries. IBPulse.com’s investigations revealed a total of 22 state governments in Nigeria did not pay salaries before Christmas.

The unique nature of the situation in Oyo state was that the state government did not make any explanation.

“This is the last nail for his coffin,” a government official said.

A cross section of the workers believe the state government is using the salaries of the government workers to finance both state and federal electoral bidding of the APC.

“Maybe he is also spending a lot to appease his godfather Tinubu. But this is Oyo state and as the electoral period is quickly approaching we will tell him with our votes that we don’t like his actions. If there is a problem, the least he can do is to come on air and address the state on what is happening if he has nothing to hide,” the civil servant said.
