A fire outbreak in the early hours of today (Saturday) gutted Ibadan’s first modern cinema house Filmhouse Cinema located at Heritage Mall in Dugbe, Ibadan.
Even though no one knows what caused the fire incidence, looking at the portions of the cinema that could be seen revealed that the fire destroyed a lot of stuffs at the cinema.
I knew something was wrong immediately I got to the mall today and I could still perceive smoke. It is a really great blow considering the fact that millions of naira were spent on the facility which continues to bring smiles to the faces of Ibadan movie goers, both young and old, who daily visit the cinema with friends, families and loved ones.
I was really reluctant to write this piece because of the great love and respect that I have for the Filmhouse team but this is a nice medium to let them know that IBPulse.com is standing with them in this period of trial.
I spoke to one of their workers few hours ago, she was almost crying. It gave me an idea of how good the company is treating its members of staff because she’s someone that is always happy while at her duty post.
I saw a notice pasted around the cinema informing members of the public about the inferno, it added the management of the Heritage Mall has set up a risk assessment and management committee to investigate and coordinate responses.
I just want the management of the Filmhouse to know that opening the cinema was one of the best (and coolest) things that have happened to Ibadan in recent times. You are in our prayers; you are in my prayers and we stand by you as you strive to get back on your feet.
The cinema has been shutdown and there is restriction of movement. But if you want to watch films, you can go to the branch at The Ventura Mall, Samonda Ibadan.
