University of Ibadan announces inter-university essay competition on post-election Nigeria

The Union of Campus Journalists, UCJ, University of Ibadan is organizing an inter-university essay competition to know what students think of a post election Nigeria.

“The last presidential election generated a lot of publicity and the result affects all of us as Nigerians,” Tawakalit Olawunmi, president of UCJ at the University of Ibadan told Edufrica. “We want something everyone can relate to. And we want to see youths that still think, understand what they expect and envision their own dreams about Nigeria.”

Entries should not exceed 1000 words and should be submitted to mail@ucjui.com The deadline for the submission is 15 July, 2015.

The star prize is =N=100,000 and a winner will be announced in September.

This year’s competition is in honor of Fisayo Soyombo, a former campus journalist from U.I and editor at The Cable. He’s sponsoring the competition’s prize money.

“He left University of Ibadan in 2007 and you just can tell he’s passionate about  journalism and campus journalism in particular,” Olawunmi said. “He wants to do something for the union he loves and sponsoring this competition is one of those things.”

There will be  a dinner/award ceremony in Novemeber to round of the school calendar/session and give the star prize to the winner of the competition.
