University of Ibadan will only admit 3700 new students – VC

More than 15,568 prospective students who wrote the post-University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the University of Ibadan (UI) will miss out on admissions for the 2015/2016 academic session.

According to a The Nation report quoting the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Isaac Adewole, only 3700 of the 19,268 that sat for its Post-UTME last weekend will be admitted.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Adewole who was represented by UI’s Deputy-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emilolorun Ayelari,‎ explained the institution’s new admission process.

“23,200 candidates scored above 200 in UTME, 20,800 applied for the post UTME in our institution and only 19,268 took the screening and examination,” he said.

“Our new method of admitting students with the O’levels and UTME result has really reduced students from withdrawing at the first year due to poor performances.”
