According to the police, there will be no carnivals and bangers in Ibadan

Ibadan and carnivals are like 5 & 6 but this time, the Oyo State Police Command has said that the ban on street carnivals as well as use of fireworks such as bangers, is still in force. The Police said this in a press release issued on Saturday by SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command.

“The warning becomes imperative as part of proactive measures to curb crimes and criminality that often characterize the festive seasons. Therefore, parents, guardians are advised to warn their children to desist from use of such fireworks, and refrain from activities relating to street carnivals because of their security implications,” the force stated.

It added that individuals who trade in lethal fireworks are warned to abandon this illicit trade or risk being arrested and prosecuted.

“To ensure enforcement, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police has directed policemen in uniform and plain clothes to arrest and prosecute offenders. However, the State Commissioner of Police wishes the good people of Oyo State Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance,” the command concluded.
