Ibadan court orders destruction of cocaine and other confiscated drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been given the go ahead by the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan to destroy confiscated drugs.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Morakinyo Ayokunle, had requested the court to grant the agency the authority to destroy the confiscated substances. According to him, the seized drugs which include cocaine, heroine and cannabis were confiscated.

He added that cases on the drugs had been disposed off between 2011 and 2013.

The package includes 69kg of cocaine, 603.5kg of heroine, 14,624.664kg of cannabis and 7.050kg of other psychotropic substances.

Justice Abimbola Obaseki-Adejumo in his ruling approved the destruction of the drugs. He said that the NDLEA could go ahead to carry out the destruction of the drugs in view of the health risk that might be involved in keeping the substances.
