Ajimobi and Ibadan high chiefs dragged to court over installation of new Olubadan
Indications have emerged that the installation of a new Olubadan of Ibadanland following the demise and internment of Oba Odulana Odugade may be delayed if Oyo High Court grants a litigation filed against Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the Olubadan-in-Council.
The suit is filed by the Seriki Chiefs of Ibadanland who are claiming that the lawful process of selecting a new monarch for the city is not strictly adhered to. They asked Oyo State High Court to address the issue due to its urgency and to prevent High Chief Saliu Adetunji from being installed as the new king.
“There is real urgency in this case because the ‘res’ to be preserved is the Olubadan of Ibadan Chieftaincy and the respondents have concluded their plans to install the defendant as the next Olubadan in spite of the pendency of the order of interlocutory injunction and in spite of this suit and the claimant learnt of this plan only on February 1, 2016″.
In the suit filed by their legal counsel, Mr. Abideen Adeniran, they are praying the court to grant them an interlocutory injunction restraining Governor Ajimobi and other defendants, from filling any vacancy in the Olubadan of Ibadan chieftaincy.
