The much anticipated match involving old rivals – Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan and Rangers Football Club ended in a one-all draw on Sunday. The epic match was played at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba in Ibadan.
The match was the star fixture for the Match Day 9 of the Nigeria Premier League.
Two-three decades back, the two teams were toast of fans across Nigeria and even outside the shores following successes recorded in continental competitions. However, several years down the line, the two teams seem to have lost their magic touch; a development that has accounted for a drought of silverware.
That nonetheless, the rivalry between 3SC and Rangers still lingers on.
The most recent meeting before Shooting Stars dropped off the Premier League was in 2012/13 season when both sides won their home games. Rangers won 2-0 in Enugu on June 19, 2013 while Shooting reciprocated 2-1 in Ibadan on September 22nd.
A slim home win for Shooting Stars was what many analysts predicted but Rangers who have won two out of their last five games were able to steal a point in Sunday’s classic pairing.
