The Bridge Theatre to Stage Soji Cole’s “Maybe Tomorrow”
The Bridge Ensemble Theatre Company, a group of passion-driven young dramatists is set to use the pseudo-life of the theatre to explore and interrogate societal issues through the staging of value-based, educational plays. As part of activities commemorating the ninth anniversary of the group’s parent body, The Bridge Network, it has cross-examined many plays and resolved to the staging of Maybe Tomorrow, a play by Soji Cole.
Maybe Tomorrow, an acclaimed play that has been staged at the University of Ibadan and at the prestigious culture hub, Terra Kulture, Lagos, addresses critical issues affecting our existence as a nation. It dissects the role of patriotism, corruption in Nigeria’s police, illegal torture and gives in-depth information on our national history. It also explores the exploitation of the masses perpetuated in different forms, especially the undue environmental pollution and sundry issues facing the Niger-Delta. Maybe Tomorrow is an appetizing lump of drama that conveys the searing anger of a new generation, a highly suspenseful, high-paced drama that speaks about our past, our present and our collective future as a nation.
The playwright, Soji Cole, is a member of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ibadan where he teaches undergraduates playwriting at the Department of Theatre Arts. This stage production will be directed by Jeje Ibukun, a seasoned theatre director, and produced by Francis Madojemu, renowned Architect and director of The Bridge Ensemble Theatre Company.
The event will take place at the NuStreams Conference Centre, Km 110 Iyaganku Road, off Alalubosa GRA, Ibadan on Friday October 2, 2015 at 5:00pm prompt.
Proudly supported by The Bridge Network, The Bridge Ensemble Theatre Company, Eda Theatre Company, IdeasBridge Creative Guild, WriteHouse Collective and NuStreams Conference and Culture Centre, the event will also feature comedy, music and dance presentations. It is open to the general public as no gate fee will be charged.
