Ibadan’s authentic Mogaji’s are claiming that their lives are being threatened

I read this morning that the Council of Ibadan Authentic Mogajis in Ibadan have alleged that they have been receiving calls from anonymous persons threatening them to stop going to the Popoyemoja palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, or risk being killed.

According to the spokesman for the group, Chief Wale Oladoja, who is the Mogaji Akinsola compound in Oopo Labiran area of Ibadan, many of them had been receiving the threat calls, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector-General of Police to come to their aid.

Here is what you need to know. The Mogajis are behind the Olubadan’s opposition to the installation of 21 kings by the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi,  and they have also instituted a joint court case against the move. This could imply that their position on the whole matter maybe the motive behind the threats since such did not happen prior to the present dispensation.

Oladoja said, “Our lives are no longer safe here and we begin to wonder what our offence is? Have we done anything wrong by standing with the Olubadan on the issue of the controversial crowning of the 21 kings to preserve our culture, traditional norm and values?”

According to him, they’ve received frequent anonymous calls from the people they suspect to be agents of deaths are threatening them including the chairman of this group, Mogaji Moshood Akere, the vice-chairman, Mogaji Abass Oloko, the coordinator, Mogaji Jelili Adanla, the financial secretary, Mogaji Ademola Olasomi and me.

“The callers warned us to desist forthwith from going to the Olubadan’s palace,” he said.

Oladoja added that apart from the Mogajis, other people standing with the monarch were also targeted by the callers. He said that group was also worried that gunmen that invaded the Olubadan palace were still walking free.
