Banks in Ibadan coping with pressure as BVN registration ends tomorrow

Good evening. How are you doing? Have you gotten your BVN?

This afternoon, I saw long queues  at banks in various parts of Ibadan as account holders attempt to get their bank verification number (BVN) before the deadline – which is Tuesday June 30 according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

I was expecting that CBN would extend the deadline but indications emerged today that none of that would happen.

According to the director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Ibrahim Mu’azu, the window was open for one and a half years and customers had ample opportunity to register.

He said more than 14 million bank customers have already registered.

Even though I’ve gotten my BVN, I have not connected it to other bank accounts which means I belong to the category of those who don’t have BVN for their accounts.

If you don’t have BVN, the CBN rep said not having the BVN will not prevent bank customers from making transactions, such as payments and withdrawals, on their accounts. However, he said that customers using remote access services, such as internet banking and other services online, and even Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), would not be able to transact business.

This one na serious matter o!

Meanwhile, the apex bank also directed banks to provide online platforms for Nigerians in diaspora to register. Although the registration closes tomorrow, many customers are still unaware of the BVN or its benefits, especially Nigerians living outside the country but who have accounts with local banks.

If you cannot do without using internet banking and the ATM, you better go and get your BVN tomorrow cos CBN dey vex o
