Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District has officially announced he is not a member of All Progressives Congress (APC) as earlier reported by IBPulse.
Speaking through his media aide, Olawale Sadare, the senator said he has been without a party since the Action Congress of Nigeria became defunct.
According to PUNCH Newspaper, Sadare said that contrary to the widespread belief, Lanlehin did not follow other ACN members to APC and has no intention of doing so, adding that the lawmaker was already making consultations with political chiefs and would soon make public his political affiliation.
“It is time we cleared the air on the political party affiliation of Senator Lanlehin in view of the interest it has generated in the public space. First and foremost, it is widely known that Lanlehin was elected into the Senate in 2011 through the ACN which is now defunct.
He did not participate in the last APC membership registration exercise and he does not have any interest in the affairs of the party,” Sadare said.
The media aide said Lanlehin who is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning, Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, would unfold his political plans after theconsultations with stakeholders in Nigerian politics.
“I must say that Lanlehin appreciates all those who have been giving support and showing understanding of the present political situation.
He wants the people to be assured of his determination not to relent in rendering service to his senatorial district, Oyo State and Nigeria, Osadare added.
Although the media aide did not officially declare the party the senator is planning to declare for, information made available exclusively to IBPulse is that he is strongly considering the gubernatorial ticket of Accord Party.
