Ladoja vs Ajimobi: Tension in Ibadan as election tribunal delivers judgement today

Today is one of those days when the entire state is thrown into pensive mode as the fate of the future of the state will be determined by an electoral tribunal.

Today Tuesday October 27, we the residents in Oyo state will tomorrow, October 27 know the fate of the former governor of the state, Rasidi Ladoja, as the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in the state capital, Ibadan will deliver the judgement on the state’s governorship polls based on Ladoja’s petition.

Ladoja who contested the election under the platform of Accord Party (AP) in the April 11 polls, is challenging the declaration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ladoja joined the APC, INEC and the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rufus Akeju, as co-corespondents in his petition.

Counsel to Ladoja, Richard Ogunwole (SAN), had urged the tribunal to nullify Ajimobi’s election and declared the former governor the winner of the election or order a rerun.

Ogunwole opined that the election was marred by irregularities and malpractices. But, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Counsel to the governor, urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition, adding that it lacked merit and facts.

It will be recalled that Ladoja had called 26 witnesses at the hearing of his petition. The witnesses presented were drawn from some of the state’s local governments, which results were being challenged by the former governor.
