Protest in University of Ibadan over death of student rejected by Jaja Clinic

This morning I read a rather sad news on Nairaland about the death of a student of the University of Ibadan who reportedly experienced suffocation during last night’s UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona FC of Spain Bayern Munich of Germany.

The incident happened at Indy Hall of Residence and the identity of the late student has been revealed to be Mayowa Alaran, a 200 level student of the institution.

Students who knew what happened said the Alaran was rushed to the University Health Services unit popularly called JAJA Hospital. He was however rejected by officers on duty at the clinic.

Students of the institution are organizing a protest this morning at the university’s Students Union Building (SUB).

“This is getting out of hand, a sick Awoite was neglected few days ago at Jaja, negligence killed Alaran , it must stop. We must fight. It happened to Alaran, it could have been anyone… his death could have been averted,” an angry UI student said.

Another student decried the poor status of the facilities at the Junior Common Room (JCR) of the hostel.

“I just don’t like watching football inside that JCR, It’s always like oven. I prefer watching it on the TV screen outside,” he said.

Describing the actions of staff of Jaja Clinic as heartless, a student of the university narrated how the clinic almost rejected another student that fainted this morning.

“Jaja staffs are just so heartless. Following Alaran’s death, another lady from Idia hall suffocated and they wanted to reject her again. It took the intervention of angry students protesting before they could admit her
